Padparadscha Padparadscha
Sunset and Lotus Flower
📜 History and Stories
The beautiful name "Padparacha" is derived from the Sinhalese word "padma raga", meaning "color of the lotus flower", which accurately describes its unique pinkish-orange hue, which resembles the petals of a lotus flower at sunset in Sri Lanka. It is the rarest and most expensive of all colored sapphires, and has been described by many connoisseurs as the "nobility of gems".
Due to its extreme rarity, Paparracha is not as well known in history as rubies and sapphires, but it has always been the holy grail sought by top collectors and connoisseurs.
🌍 Major Origin Distribution
Traditionally, the most authentic and revered Paparacha comes from Sri Lanka (Ceylon). It is famous for its soft, delicate pinkish-orange color. In recent years, pinkish-orange sapphires have also been found in Madagascar and Tanzania, but their color is usually more orange or brownish, a departure from the classic Sri Lankan hue.

Paparacha vs. Pink/Orange Sapphire
🎨 Strict Color Definition
Not all pinkish-orange sapphires can be called papparachas. Authoritative gemological laboratories have a very strict definition of its color: it must exhibit both pink and orange, and the two colors must be delicately balanced, without being too dark or too light.

💰 Different quality grades and values
The value of a Paparacha depends entirely on its color. The value of a standardized color is much higher than that of an ordinary pink or orange sapphire.
1. Color
The most important factor. The proportion, saturation and tone of pink and orange must be perfectly balanced.
2. Clarity
High-quality pappalacha should be clean to the naked eye, but due to its rarity, minor inclusions are usually acceptable.
3. Origin
Sri Lanka's Paparacha is prized for its classic "lotus" color, which carries an estate premium.
4. Treatment
Unheated natural Paparacha is the most valuable. Low-temperature heating is an acceptable optimization method in the market.

From sapphires with a pinkish or orange tint, to top quality Paparacha with a perfect balance of colors, their value increases exponentially.
