Tanzanite
A generational gem that is rarer than diamonds.
📜 Discovery and History
The story of Tanzanite began in 1967 in Tanzania, East Africa. Legend has it that Marseille herders discovered these beautiful crystals, which turned from brownish-brown to azure blue, after a lightning-induced savannah fire.
This new gemstone soon attracted the attention of American jewelry giant Tiffany & Co. Recognizing its enormous potential, they named it "Tanzanite" in 1968 after the country in which it is found, "Tanzania", and promoted it to the world, thus opening a legendary chapter in the history of Tanzanite.
🌍 Only place of origin: Tanzania
Tanzanite is commercially mined only in one place on earth: the Merelani mine in northern Tanzania, in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. This extreme rarity is at the heart of its value.

Tanzanite has been called the "gemstone of a generation" because its deposits are expected to be depleted within the next few decades. Compared to diamonds, which are found all over the world, its rarity cannot be overstated.

✨ Fascinating trichromaticity
The most amazing property of tanzanite is its intense trichromaticity. This means that the same stone appears in three distinct colors when viewed from different crystal axes. This is caused by light vibrating in different planes within the crystal.
blue
Usually the dominant color of the gemstone
violet (color)
Secondary colors for added richness
Wine Red
Visible in certain light and angles
💰 How to measure the value of tanzanite?
Similar to diamonds, Tanzanite's value is mainly assessed by the "4Cs" criteria. In addition, due to its uniqueness, color is one of the most important factors.
1. Color
The most important factor. The richer and more saturated the color, the higher the value.
2. Clarity
High quality Tanzanite should be "Eye-Clean".
3. Cut
An excellent cut maximizes the brilliance and fire of the stone.
4. Carat
The greater the weight, the rarer it is, and the value increases exponentially.
Different Colors of the Value Ladder
The value of tanzanite is directly related to the saturation of its blue-violet hue. The deeper the color, the closer it is to pure blue, or the stronger the violet hue, the higher the value. The presence of green or brownish tones reduces its value.
🔥 Heat Treatment Secrets
The vast majority of tanzanites on the market are gently heat treated (approximately 600 degrees Celsius). This recognized optimization process permanently removes the brownish-yellow hue from the natural raw stone, thus revealing its signature, stable and intense blue-violet color.
